Beautiful night stand created by Ralph Mullally from walnut wood donated by brother Bob Ralph Mullally was honored recently for his 30 years of service as a firearms safety instructor. In April 1969 he began instructing in the La Crescent Legion basement, teaching later classes at the grade school until the state passed a law against carrying firearms on school property. At that time the classes were moved to the Gopher State Sportsmen's Club where they have been held ever since.
All of Ralph's children and grandchildren went through the La Crescent firearm safety training class with him. With that goal accomplished, he decided it was "time to step down and let the newer guys take over."
In further news, Ralph just finished designing and creating a finely crafted night stand made of walnut wood given to him by his brother Bob last winter. It is a work of beauty!
Congratulations to Ralph on the public acknowledgement of his long and impressive firearms safety instructor service, and upon his incredible artistry and talent in woodworking.

Kelle Kampa graduated Magna Cum Laude with a BA in Economics and Health Science from Rice University! Kelle Kampa graduated Magna Cum Laude with a BA in Economics and Health Science from Rice University in Houston, Texas on Saturday, May 12. She was also inducted in to the Phi Beta Kappa Society. What a start on a career! The graduates were given some good advice by the commencement speaker, Salman Kahn, who told them they are empowered to improve the world, to be an empowerment and a source of positivity to others, keep a long view of life when you hit successes and inevitable failures and be a life-time learner. He recommended the graduates play a thought experiment once in a while where they project themselves 50 years ahead and then look back and wonder who in their lives they wish they would have thanked, encouraged, cheered up and loved better. Kahn said, “You have a second chance now to do these things starting today.”
Congratulations to our stellar graduate and her family!

The 2011 Stimmler/Stimler-Kampa Family reunion was a huge success! Our thanks go out to Dick Kampa, Diane Barthelemy Thornston, and LoisMarie Okonek for their hard work in bringing everything together, to Leo Stimmler for his fantastically flattering professional photographs of the attendees, and to Scott Stimler for creating exceptional color directories of and for all partipants. Our heartfelt thanks go out to everyone for their generous donations to defray event expenses and provide a nest egg for future reunion celebrations.
This year the reunion was held over two days. On Friday, July 22 we met at the Benton County Historical Society and Museum in Sauk Rapids at 10:30 AM for a tour of the museum followed by steller presentations from Fred Joesting, Research Specialist, and Mary Ostby, Executive Director. Around noon we broke for a wonderful lunch at Jimmy's Pour House next to the BCHS building, returning to the museum for an afternoon of further historical discussions and fascinating demonstrations of unique implements, including possibly the world's only extant pair of bog shoes and a copper still once owned by the Studer family. At the close of the BCHS production everyone gathered at the local country club, Coyote Moon Grill, for a relaxed and elegant private dinner party together with family members.
On Saturday July 23 we gathered at the at the Wilson Park shelter on Riverside Drive NE in St. Cloud on the banks of the Mississippi from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Family members from all over the country came together to share stories, renew acquaintances and make new friends. Not one, but two thunderstorms occurred during the picnic, breaking the week-long heat wave; however we enjoyed the weather from the safety of the park shelter. Come check out the photographs from the event and help identify a few of the relatives if you can. A grand time was had by all, and we look forward to seeing everyone at the next reunion occasion!
