At the time of the January 9, 1920 federal census, Nora was 40 years old and living with her husband Nicholas and their two daughters at 328 Market Street, Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, PA (E.D. 497). Nicholas was working as a carpenter at a mill. Nora stated that she and both her parents were born in Ireland [Source: 1920 Federal Census, NA Film No. T625-1617, p. 4B]. At the time of the April 4, 1930 federal census, Nora was 46 years old and living with her husband Nicholas and their daughter Dorothy in their own home valued at $3,200 at 328 Kingsley, (District 603) Philadelphia, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Nicholas was working as a tradesman in carpentry. She stated that she was married when she was 17 and Nicholas was 25 years old. The family owned a radio [Source: 1930 Federal Census, NA Film No. T626-2103, p. 4B]. At the time of the April 13, 1940 U.S. Federal Census, Nora stated she was 60 years old, widowed, and living with her son-in-law Frank Cantrell, daughter Helen, and granddaughters Eleanor, Dorothea and Joan at 315 Kingsley Street in Philadelphia, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The family had been residing at the same location in April 1935. Nora was working as a housekeeper for a private residence; she worked 40 hours a week for 52 weeks in 1939 and made $275. She stated that she had completed her education through the 6th grade. Son-in-law Frank was working as an accountant with the WPA. He had not been employed in the previous year. Nora was a widow living at 315 Kingsley St. in Philadelphia with her daughter Helen Cantrell, son-in-law Frank Cantrell and family, and where she died on Nov. 10, 1950 of coronary occlusions due to cardiovascular disease. She was 74 years old. |
