Notes: At the time of the April 8, 1930 U.S. Federal Census Joseph was 7 years old and living with his parents and two
siblings on the family farm in St. George Township, Benton, Minnesota. He was attending school at the time. His parents had been married ten years. His father worked as a farmer in general farming [1930 U.S. Census: St. George, Benton, Minnesota; Roll 1078; Page 5B; Enumeration District 15].

At the time of the Apr. 5, 1940 U.S. Federal census, Joseph L. was 17 years old and living with his parents and two siblings on the family farm valued at $800 in St. George Township, Benton, Minnesota. They had been living in the same house on Apr. 1, 1935. Both his father and his mother had completed the 5th grade, as had he; like them, he was no longer attending school. Louis was a farmer and Joseph L. was a farm laborer on the family farm. Siblings Louella M. (age 15) and Ralph J. (age 13) were attending school; she was in the 7th grade and he was in the 3rd.

The farm has been in the family since 1952. As of 1983, Joseph had been employed as a milk hauler for 27 years.
