Notes: At the time of the June 13, 1900 U.S. Federal Census, Lee was 3 years old and living with his parents and five
  siblings on the family farm in Watab, Benton, Minnesota. His father was a farmer. Lee's four elder siblings were attending school at the time.
 
At the time of the May 7, 1910 U.S. Federal Census, Lee was 9 years old and living with his parents, seven siblings, maternal grandmother Elizabeth Keller, and 27-year-old single servant, Jacob Schuppel from Germany, on the family farm in Haven, Sherburne, Minnesota. His father was a farmer in general farming, and brothers N.K. and Robert L. worked with him as farm laborers along with the aforementioned Jacob Schuppel. Elder brother Freed K. was working as a telephone operator for the railroad.
 
Lee was of medium height and build with blue eyes and light brown hair. He had lost four fingers on his left hand before he was 21. He was living in St. Cloud, Stearns, Minnesota as of June 5, 1917, and was working as a farm laborer for his father in Haven at the time.
 
At the time of the Jan. 14, 1920 U.S. Federal Census, Lee was 24 years old and living with his parents and three siblings on the family farm in Dist. 172, Haven Township, Sherburne, Minnesota. His father was still working as a farmer in general farming. Lee and his younger brother Harry were working together with him as laborers on the home farm.
 
At the time of the Apr. 24, 1930 U.S. Federal Census, Lee was 34 years old and living with his wife Bertha, their 6-year-old daughter Dolores A. and his widowed father in on a rented farm in Haven, Sherburne, Minnesota. He was working as a farmer in general farming. Lee and Bertha were married when he was 26 and she was 21 years old. The family owned a radio.
