| He started his education when he was 2-1/2 at Infanta Montessori in Delran, NJ. and he
continued in that school until the family moved to East Grand Rapids, MI in 1974. Attie attended
Lakeside Elementary, East Middle School and East High School. He played on the East Grand
Rapids varsity baseball team in his sophomore year.
He enjoyed nature, animals, hunting with his dad, fishing and canoeing on Reeds Lake, helping to build the cabin, woodworking, collecting shells, stones and old pennies, writing journals, stories and poetry and he planned to be a Biologist. He loved roses and he joined the Junior Rosarians. He displayed his own flowers at their annual exhibition and won several blue ribbons. He was junior staff at Camp Manitoulin on Gun Lake near Middleville, MI the summer of 1983. That same summer, shortly after his 17th birthday, Attie died instantly on Friday night, August 26, near Middleville when the car he was driving hit a tree. He was returning home about 11 o'clock after visiting his girlfriend in Middleville. His car ran through a roadside ditch in heavy fog and hit the tree. Attie was going to be a Junior at East Grand Rapids High School and a member of the varsity football team. His funeral Mass was at St. Stephen's Catholic Church in East Grand Rapids, MI. All four of his grandparents, from Washington State and North Dakota, all his aunts and uncles, from Iowa and North Dakota, all his good friends, classmates, team mates, teachers and neighbors filled the church. After his funeral, Attie was cremated. |
