At the time of the Apr. 17, 1940 U.S. Federal census, Celestine M. was 10 years old and living with her parents and two siblings on a farm they rented for $60/month in Lake George, Stearns, Minnesota. The family had been living in the same house in Apr. 1935. Her father Otto was a dairy farmer who worked 70 hours a week for 52 weeks in 1939. He had completed the 8th grade and wife Clementine A. had completed the 7th. All the children were attending school at the time; Celestine was in 4th grade, her 9-year-old brother Vernon A. was in the 3rd grade, and 5-year-old baby sister Joyce M. had just started school.

Sally married Ralph Kampa on June 18, 1951 at SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Elrosa. She graduated from high school and attended in both Belgrade and St. Cloud Cathedral. The couple made their home in St. George Township near Duelm where they farmed. She was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church where she was a Eucharistic Minister and a member of the St. Lucille Mission Group. For many years she was secretary for the Duelm mens bowling league in Foley. She enjoyed musical instruments, singing and playing cards with family and friends. She also enjoyed traveling, including two trips to Montana and Chicago on her first airplane ride.

During a visit to see Ralph and Sally Kampa at the old Kampa family farm in late July 2007, Sally said that Ralph was a spoiled youngest child and that she, Sally, has always taken care of him.
