Magdalena Haaf, the eldest daughter of John and Katherine Haaf, was born August 25, 1881 at Clear Lake, MN. She spent her girlhood there and in 1899 was married to Joseph Leander Kampa. They lived in Foley, MN until 1906 when they moved to Claremont.
 
In the April 4, 1930 census, Lena was 48 years old and living with her husband Joseph and their four youngest children in their own home in Claremont, Minnesota. Their house was valued at $2,500 (approximately $25,000 in 2001 dollars) and the family owned a radio.
