Notes: In the April 4, 1930 federal census, Gerald was 20 years old and living with his parents and four of his siblings (with
the exception of second eldest brother John) at 323 Roxborough Avenue in Roxborough, a suburb of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The family owned their home which was valued at $10,000 (or $100,000 in current 2001 dollars) and they had a radio. Gerald was 20 years old, single, and working as a home plumber.

At the time of the April 1, 1940 U.S. Federal Census, Gerald was 30 years old and living with his wife Ruth and their two young sons, Gerald (age 4) and Adrian (6 months old), at 6738 Ridge Avenue in Philadephia, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He stated he had graduated from high school. Gerald was working 40 hours a week as a city fireman for public safety. He worked 50 weeks in 1939 and earned $200.

Paul Stimmler reminisces on his Uncle Gerald: "...[I]t was quite common to have home made toys in the depths of the Great Depression...and for some years after. For example my Uncle Gerald Stimmler used to make us little toy cars in WWII from lead he used in his plumbing business and poured into molds." [from a Jan. 20, 2010 letter to Rae Bordua]
