Gustaf A. and Ottilia M. Sames (née Kaufmann) Family We've recently met online a cousin by way of Magdalena Stimmler Kaufmann: Andy Oman. Magdalena's daughter, Ottilia M. Kaufmann Sames, was Andy's great-great-grandmother. Andy just turned 30 and lives in Coon Rapids, Minnesota; he is single and has no children. He grew up in Duluth, Minnesota and became interested in his family's genealogy about 3-1/2 years ago. His grandmother on his father's side of the family has been involved in it for about 30 years. His great-aunt on his mother's side passed away before Andy became involved in genealogy, but it was her notes and information that provided a foundation for his research -- he just wishes that he had been involved in it while she was still around!
In November Andy visited the cemetery in Victoria, Minnesota where ancestors Karl and Magdalena Stimmler Kaufmann are buried, and Magdalena's father with her niece and nephew, patriarch Johann Stimmler with little Johann W. and Franciska G. Stimmler. While there he took some pictures of the Stimmler and Kaufmann gravestones which he noted appeared rather contemporary considering when the burials were made. Bob Mullally has confirmed that he heard Aunt Anna Stimmler Benninghoff had them replaced; these are the same gravestones Bob has seen ever since first visiting the cemetery in the early 1950s. In addition to the gravestone pictures, Andy also provided the obituary of Magdalena's second-born son, Frank X. Kaufmann, from the Chaska Weekly Valley Herald, Jan. 31, 1924.
Andy has provided a wealth of information about his branch of the family and generously shared photographs of his great-great-grandparents, Gustaf A. and Ottilia M. Kaufmann Sames, great-great-granduncle, Nicholas Kaufmann, great-grandparents, George C. and Magdalena Sames Pauley, and great-granduncle George C. Sames.
In the small world category, Andy's great-granduncle and -grandaunt, George and Cecelia Ebert Sames, owned a grocery store in St. Bonifacius, Minnesota in the early 1930s with Bob Mullally's wife's parents, Andy & Otillia Thurk. Bob has kindly provided some photographs of the interior of the Sames Store from the 1920s and of its predecessor, the Old Sames Store, from the turn of the century.
Thank you Andy for all your contributions and research, and welcome from everyone at the Stimmler and Kampa Family site!
