At the time of the June 11, 1860 U.S. Census, Frank was 8 years old and living with his parents and four siblings on the family farm in Lake Town, Carver County, Minnesota. Although his father was born in Bavaria and his mother in France, Frank was born in Pennsylvania. At the time of the June 21, 1870 U.S. Census, Frank was 19 years old and living with his parents and six siblings on the family farm in Lake Town, Carver County, Minnesota. On on June 24, 1870, in the city of St. Louis, Missouri Frank was married to Barbara Hammer, and to this union were born eight children, namely: Jacob, who died in childhood; Frank, now living in North Dakota (as of 1926); Mary, who married Harvey Phillips and was making her home with her mother; Kate, who died at the age of twenty-one years; Emma, who married P. J. Stedman and died in 1918; John, living in California; Peter, who died in infancy; and Joseph J. Kaufman, who lives in Seattle and is engaged in the furniture business. At the time of the June 9, 1880 U.S. Census Frank was 28 years old and living with his wife Barbara and their four children on their farm in Marysland, Swift County, Minnesota. [Source: 1880 U.S. Census, Roll: T9-635; Family History Film: 1254635; p. 210C; E.D. 26] Returning home from visiting their daughter Mary Phillips in Lynden, Washington on the afternoon of Nov. 15, 1923, the car Frank was driving collided with a logging truck near Custer, WA. His wife Barbara, who was riding with him, was only slightly injured. However, Frank was killed instantly at the age of 73. |
