GREGORY "Greg" JOHN MULLALLY

Born: April 16, 1968

Parents:

Ralph Clarence Mullally
Lois Helen Clendenin

Notes: Greg lives in a small group home in La Crescent with two other fellows and is employed in a local workshop, is happy and seems to
  enjoy his activities.

Ralph Mullally talks about his son, Greg: "Greg has been involved with Special Olympics for many years. The past few years he's concentrated on power lifting, mainly the 'dead lift.'

"To explain the 'dead lift' - the weighted bar sits on the mat, the athlete walks up to the bar with ankles touching the bar then squats down grabs the bar and lifts straight up straightening the body, holds for a few seconds then lowers the bar back to the mat. The bar itself weighs 45 pounds then additional weights are added.

"Greg is in the lightest weight division (athlete weight). They get a maximum of three lifts (unless they fail, then they're out). His weight division starts at 85 pounds with 10 pounds added for each next lift.

"We were at a regional meet in Stevens Point, Wi. yesterday. The attached picture shows Greg with his division blue ribbon, first place lift of 110 pounds. Now it's on to the state meet in June.

"On the other end of the spectrum, the Wisconsin Special Olympics "dead lift" in the heavy weight division was broken by 10 pounds with a fellow lifting 410 pounds (ya, 410 pounds).

"Anyway, the next time I need some 40 pound bags of water softener salt, I'm taking Greg." -- from an April 27, 2008 e-mail

"Greg participated in a Special Olympic powerlifting event yesterday. This is the first year he did the bench press, he did a 95 pound lift. He also does the dead lift, a 140 pound lift, his personal best. Mind you, he only weighs 143 pounds. He goes on the the state level later this summer.

"That's why we don't make him mad!!!" -- from an April 21, 2013 e-mail

"Greg was at a powerlifting event last Saturday, attached are two pictures. One is him doing a bench press of 65#, the other is him doing a "dead lift' of 165#. He only weights 147#. He now goes on to the state meet." -- from a May 4, 2015 e-mail
