| Notes: |
Crescentia was born round about midnight at Altwiesloch and baptised
according to the Christian faith in the Unter church on Sunday afternoon
at two o'clock. Her godfather was Anton Rieger and godmother was
Crescentia Laeng, both from Wiessloch. Also in attendance was Jacob Berg,
a local teacher.
Crescentia's mother was Evangelical (Protestant) and died in Germany. She had a stepmother. Crescentia came to America in 1852 when she was 12 years old. In 1880 Anton and Crescentia were living on a rented farm in Clear Lake, Sherburne County, with their seven children. By 1900 Anton and Crescentia were living in Minneapolis with two of their children -- Mary, a seamstress, and Anna, a "tobacco stripper." Two of their sons, George L. and Daniel, were hardware merchants in Clear Lake, and "among the successful men in Sherburne County" according to the "Compendium of History and Biography," written in 1905. The family farm at Clearlake consisted of 400 acres of land on Section 16 of Clear Lake. This property had an eight-room brick residence, and a barn 46 by 60 feet with a 50-foot gable. On April 28, 1910, Crescentia was widowed, 69 years old and living with her youngest daughter Annie, her husband George and their two young sons in Robbinsdale Village, Hennepin, Minnesota. She stated that she had her own income. Her son-in-law George was working as the manager of a wholesale house [Source: 1910 U.S. Census, Robbinsdale, Hennepin, Minnesota; Roll T624_699, Page 7B, Enumeration District 5]. Crescentia passed away from chronic heart disease at the home of her daughter, Mary Stimmler McDonald, at 2107 Lyndale North, Minneapolis. She is buried next to her in St. Mary's Cemetery, in Minneapolis, Hennipen County, Minnesota. Crescentia was 77 years and 9 months old. |

Comment on above photograph:"THIS IS A DIGITAL PHOTO TAKEN OF THE 15" X 20" PICTURE OF ANTHONY J. & CRESCENCE (SOHN) STIMMLER WHICH HANGS ON MY OFFICE WALL. I REMEMBER UNCLE GEORGE DINGMANN TAKING A PHOTOGRAPH OF THE PICTURE IN THE EARLY 1930'S. I THINK THE PICTURE WAS DONE IN CHARCOAL BY MY MOTHER MARIE DINGMANN DURING THE TIME (3 SUMMERS) SHE SPENT AT THE CHICAGO ART INSTITUTE. I THINK THE CHARCOAL WAS APPLIED OVER A PHOTOGRAPH. ANTHONY DIED IN 1906 SO I WOULD GUESS THE PHOTOGRAPH WAS TAKEN IN THE LATE 1890'S. MOTHER SAID THAT HER GRANDMOTHER NEVER WENT OUT IN PUBLIC WITHOUT HER HAT." -- e-mail from Robert R. Mullally dated April 19, 2004. |
