whose farm was worth $2,000 and who had personal goods worth $880. His 42-year-old mother Magdalena was keeping house. Neither he nor his brother Joseph were attending school although
the five older children were. However, nine-year-old sister Otilla had not yet mastered the art of writing.
At the time of the May 1, 1875 Minnesota state census, Nick was 8 years old and living in Laketown, Carver, Minnesota with his parents and three siblings. At the time of the June 17, 1880 U.S. federal census, Nicholas was 13 years old and living with his parents and two siblings on the family farm in Laketown, Carver, Minnesota. At the time of the June 27, 1895 Minnesota state census, Nic was 28 years old and living with his wife Emma, their two children, his 76-year-old widowed mother Magdalena, and a 16-year-old male in Laketown, Carver, Minnesota. Nic was working as a farmer. At the time of the June 11, 1900 U.S. federal census, Nicholas was 33 years old and living with his wife Emma, their two children and a 16-year-old hired man, Richard Hedtke, in Laketown, Carver, Minnesota. He was working as a farmer. In October 1912 Nicholas and Emma travelled to Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada where he found employment as a sheet metal worker. They lived at 3862-24th Ave. W. in Port Grey, British Columbia along with one son and one daugher over age [Certificate of Registration of American Citizen, Nov. 4, 1915]. On June 22, 1941, Nicholas travelled from his home at 3851 W. 29th Ave. in Vancouver, British Columbia to Aberdeen, Washington to visit his brother Joseph. At the time he was 75 years old, widowed and a steam engineer. Nicholas died on Dec. 11, 1958 in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. He was 91 years old. |
