"Joseph Kampa was born in Prussia, on the 18th of March, 1850. Residing there until the year 1870, the family came to America, and Mr. Kampa purchased the farm where he now lives. He was married on the 15th of November, 1870, to Miss T. Balder. They have six children." -- from "History of the Upper Mississippi Valley," St. George Township (1881)
 
Theresa lived in Neudorf, Germany, before she moved to America. She immigrated with her parents and siblings on the passenger ship "Saxonia" which sailed from Hamburg on April 20, 1870 and arrived in New York on May 6, 1870.
 
At the time of the 1880 federal census, Theresa was 29 years old and living with her husband Joseph and their six children, August (age 10), Annie Mary (age 9), Francis (age 7), Charles (age 5), Joseph (age 3), and Mary (age 1) in St. George, Benton County, MN. Joseph was working as a farmer at the time. [Source: NA Film No. T9-0615, p. 169A]
 
At the time of the July 9, 1895 Minnesota state census Theresa was 43 years old and living with her husband Joseph and ten children in St. George Township, Benton Co. MN. Theresa said she had been living there for 25 years, and that both her parents were of foreign birth.
 
Theresa passed away on July 25, 1920 at the age of 68, and is buried at St. Lawrence Parish in Duelm, Benton County, Minnesota.
