"Our father's parents - Joseph F. Kampa and Theresa Balder Kampa - came from Germany about 1870 - They journeyed to Minnesota and walked from St. Cloud to Foley - the community of Duelm where they were early pioneers on the land which they homesteaded. Grandfather was born in Neudorf, Germany.
 
"Mother's parents - John Haaf and Katherine Haaf came from Germany to New York (? or Penn. ? Later to Clear Lake, Minn. where their 10 children were born. Our mother - Magdalena Otilia Haaf was the oldest, born August 25, 1881.
"She had 4 sisters and 4 brothers -
Elizabeth - Mrs. Charles Heydman of Red Wing
Mary - (Mrs. Frank Hoffman of Robbinsdale)
Frances -
Sophie - Mrs. Ernie Nichols, Mpls.
Rose Hoff Redican of Mpls.
Charles Haaf - Clearlake
Gilbert Philip and George.
(The youngest members of the family changed their name or spelling from Haaf to Hoff.)"
