[Source: 1920 Federal Census, E.D. 81, p. 20B] In the April 22, 1930 federal census, Mary was 51 years old and living with husband Tony and their seven youngest children in Foley Village, Minnesota. They owned their home which was valued at $3,000 (or $30,000 in 2001 dollars) and the family had a radio. Mary stated that both her parents were born in Germany. She and Tony were married when she was 19 and he was 26 years old. Marge Randall's memories of Mary Stimler: "Mary Ann, Grandma, Uncle Frank and I used to play 500 rummy a lot and they would both get so mad when Mary Ann or I would go out. And if Mary Ann or I didn't lay down a card Grandma could play her favorite words were, "Sure! Sit there with a mitt full." Translated meant we were holding cards she wanted and didn't lay them down. But we always played -- One summer Uncle Frank was there -- I think the entire summer." |

Joe Hall's memories of grandmother Mary Stimler: "[T]he picture of Mary Stimler pouring tea illustrates the damage to her arm she sustained when she got her hand caught in the wringers of her washing machine. It had gone in midway up her arm and she had to back it out, ouch!" |
