Notes: At the time of the July 9, 1895 Minnesota state census William was 7 years old and living with his parents and nine siblings on the family farm in
  St. George Township, Benton Co. MN. He said he had been living there all his life, and that both his parents were of foreign birth.
 
At the time of the Apr. 18, 1910 U.S. census, William was 23 years old, single and boarding with the John M. and Ellen A. Hazel family on Boardway in Alden Village, Freeborn, Minnesota. He was working as the 2nd Man at the Creamery.
 
On June 5, 1917 William registered for the WWI Civilian Draft in Butte County, South Dakota. He stated that his birth date was May 20, 1889 and that he was born in Foley, Minnesota. At that time he was 30 years old and working as a butter maker in Belle Fourche, Butte, South Dakota. He was tall, of medium build, with blue eyes and brown hair.
 
At the time of the April 2, 1930 U.S. census, William was 42 years old and living with his wife Kathryn and two children in a home they rented for $35/month at 603 Maumee St., Adrian, Lenawee County, Michigan. The family owned a radio. Both children were attending school. William was working as a commercial salesman for a wholesale drug business. He said he was born in Minnesota and both his parents were born in Germany. He stated that he was married when he was 25 and Kathryn was 19 years old. In 1942 William and Kathryn were living at 1341 W. Maumee St. in Adrian, Lenawee, Michigan. William was 54 years old and working for Chi Hansens Laboratory at 9015 W. Maple in Milwaukee, Milwaukee, Wisconsin. [Source: U.S. WWII Draft Registration Cards, 1942, Michigan]
 
Daughter Elizabeth became an M.D. and married Brian Boden, another M.D. Later in life William took another wife, Jane "Babe" Roberts. Her father ran a saloon in Belle Fouche.
 
William's last residence was Sturgis, Meade, South Dakota 57785.
