p. 169A] At the time of the July 9, 1895 Minnesota state census Charles was 20 years old and living with his parents and nine siblings on the family farm in St. George Township, Benton Co. MN. Charles said he had been living there all his life, and that both his parents were of foreign birth. On September 12, 1918, Charles Franklin was 43 years old and living in Verndale, Waldena, Minnesota. He was working for the telephone company. He was of medium height and stout build, and had black hair and blue eyes. In the April 10, 1930 U.S. Federal Census, Charles F. was 53 years old and living with his wife Emma and their three children in their rented home for $40 a month at 281 Ferris Ave., Highland Park, Wayne, Michigan. The family owned a radio. Charles was working in the shipping department of an automobile factory. He was married when he was 29 and Emma was 21 years old [1930 U.S. Census, Highland Park, Wayne, Michigan, Roll 1074, E.D. 82-1003, Supervisor's Dist. 21, p. 10B]. Marge Randall reminesces on Charlie Kampa: "Uncle Charlie lived in Detroit, MI the whole time I was growing up and I remember two of his daughters that came to Foley with him and their names were Evelyn and Doris." |
