At the time of the 1860 federal census, Robert was 11 years old and living with his parents and three siblings in Jay, Essex County, NY. He had attended school within the year [Source: 1860 Federal Census, NA Film No. T-753, p. 691].
 
At the time of the 1865 New York State Census, Robert was 16 years old and living with his parents and siblings Pierpont (25), who had served 7 months in the Union Army; Wayne (23), who had served 34 months in the Union Army; Warren (21); and Jane (19). The family was living in a frame house worth $150 on 94 improved acres valued at $2,000, with stock valued at $400 and impements worth $50 [1865 New York State Census: Jay, Essex, New York, FHL US/Can Film #0866321, lines 35-41].
 
At the time of the 1870 federal census, Robert was 21 years old, working as a teamster and living with his brother and sister-in-law, Frank J. and Louisa Stickney in their boarding house in Minneapolis 1st Ward, Hennepin, Minnesota. Living with them were boarders Mary Staple (17); F. High (24), lumberman; Chas. R. Loring (26), teamster; brother Pierpont (30), teamster; brother Warren Stickney (26), teamster; M.C. Cole (24), teamster and possible future husband of Jane P. Stickney; Frank Gray (19), teamster; and Frank Jones (16), grocer's clerk [FHL US/Can Film #830425, Dwelling 335, Family 329, pp. 49-50 (289-290), lines 39-40, 1-9].
 
At the time of the 1880 federal census, Robert was 36 years old and living with his brother, Anthony W. Stickney, his sister-in-law Alice, her 9-year-old son, Harvey Strobridge, and their servant, Annie Noonan (his future wife) in Minneapolis, Hennepin County, MN [Source: 1880 Federal Census, NA Film No. T9-0622, p. 348B].
 
A second 1880 census entry shows Robert being 28 years old and living with his brother Frank J. Stickney, sister-in-law Louisa H., niece Lena, Arthur J. Elliott (single bookkeeper, 28 yrs. old), and Clara J. Haskell (single dressmaker, 24 yrs. old) in Minneapolis, Hennepin County, MN. Robert was working as a teamster at the time [Source: NA Film No. T9-0622, p. 355D].
 
At the time of the June 27, 1895 Minnesota State census, Robert was 46 years old and living with his wife Annie, their three children, and his mother-in-law and father-in-law at 322 E. 15th St. in Minneapolis, Hennepin, Minnesota. He was working as a sidewalk foreman [Source: 1895 State Census, Ward 5, Minneapolis, Hennepin, Minnesota, FHL Film No. 0565779, p. 90].
 
On June 6, 1900 at the time of the federal census, Robert was 52 years old and living with his wife Anna and three children, Frank D., Alice M. and Ruth Ann in Minneapolis, Hennepin County, MN. He and his wife had been married for 18 years. He was working as a teamster. He stated that he was born in New York as was his mother, however his father was born in New Hampshire [Source: 1900 Federal Census, NA Film No. T9-0767, E.D. 60, p. 7B].
 
At the time of the Minnesota State Census on June 10, 1905, Robert O. was 57 years old and living with his wife and their three children on E. 15th Ave., Minneapolis, Hennepin, Minnesota. He was working as a teamster [1905 Minnesota State Census, Minneapolis Ward 5, Roll MNSC_124, Line 13].
 
On April 26, 1910 at the time of the federal census, Robert was 60 years old and living with his wife Anna and two children, Frank D. and Ruth A. in Minneapolis, Hennepin County, MN. He and his wife had been married for 28 years. He was working as a teamster. He stated that he and his parents were born in New York [Source: 1910 Federal Census, NA Film No. T9-702, E.D. 92, 5th Ward, p. 11B].
 
In the 1910 Minneapolis city directory, Robert resided at 312 E. 15th Street and worked as a teamster. His children Frank and Ruth A. lived with him, Frank listed as a surveyor, and Ruth as a student.
 
On June 6, 1914 Robert died at home from stomach cancer at the age of 64.
