At the time of the 1865 New York State Census, Pierpont Stickney was 25 years old
and living with his parents and siblings, Wayne (23), Warren (21), Jane (19) and Robert (16). Pierpont had
served 7 months in the Union Army. The family was living in a frame house worth $150 on 94 improved acres valued at $2,000, with stock valued
at $400 and impements worth $50 [1865 New York State Census: Jay, Essex, New York, FHL US/Can Film #0866321, lines 35-41]. At the time of the 1870 federal census, Pierpont was 30 years old, working as a teamster and living with his brother and sister-in-law, Frank J. and Louisa Stickney in their boarding house in Minneapolis 1st Ward, Hennepin, Minnesota. Living with them were boarders Mary Staple (17); F. High (24), lumberman; Chas. R. Loring (26), teamster; brother Warren Stickney (26), teamster; brother Robert Stickney (21), teamster; M.C. Cole (24), teamster and possible future husband of Jane P. Stickney; Frank Gray (19), teamster; and Frank Jones (16), grocer's clerk [FHL US/Can Film #830425, Dwelling 335, Family 329, pp. 49-50 (289-290), lines 39-40, 1-9]. At the time of the 1875 Minnesota State Census, Pierpont Stickney (35) and his wife Clara (19) were living in Minneapolis 3rd Ward, Hennepin, Minnesota [1875 Minnesota State Census, Minneapolis 3rd Ward, Hennepin, Minnesota, US/Can Film #0565721, p. 28]. At the time of the June 2, 1880 U.S. Federal Census, Pierpont was 40 years old and living at 406 Ninth St. in Minneapolis, Hennepin, Minnesota with wife Clara E. (24), their children Ralph C. (2) and Blanche (10/12 months), sister-in-law Lily D. Hazelton (19), and boarder Chas. Bayson (26), a painter born in Denmark [1880 U.S. Federal Census, Roll T9-622, p. 103.1000, also FHL US/Can Film #1254622, ED 233, Sheet 5, lines 50-55, p.348B]. At the time of the 1890 Special Veterans' Census, Pierpont was living at 121 Seventh St. SE in Minneapolis, Hennepin, Minnesota. During the U.S. Civil War, he has been a private in Company I of the 77th New York Infantry. He had enlisted on Oct. 26, 1861 and was discharged on May 23, 1862; the length of his military service was 6 months and 28 days. At this time he has a medical disability of weak lungs [1890 Special Veterans' Census, Roll 23, ED 290, p. 2, line 13]. Pierpont died at the age of 50 from typhoid fever. Although he was originally buried in Lakewood Cemetery in Minneapolis, Hennepin, Minnesota, he was removed and interned in Hillside Cemetery in Minneapolis, Hennepin, Minnesota on Sept. 1, 1903. |
