"Following an illness of
several months' duration, Joseph Kampa, Sr.,
for over 40 years a resident of Benton County and one of its foremost and
most respected citizens, passed away at his home in the town of St. George,
Tuesday morning at One O'Clock, at the age of 65 years. Immediate cause of
death was heart trouble. The deceased was born in Germany, but early in his
life emigrated to the land of stars and stripes. Almost a half century ago he
took a homestead in the town of St. George in this county where he continued
to reside until the Grim Reaper's summons. He was a man beloved by all who
knew him and had the full confidence and respect of all of his acquaintances.
For a good number of years he has served his town in various capacities and at the
time of his death he was town treasurer, which office he held for several terms.
"He is survived by the widow
and 13 children, 8 boys and 5 girls as follows: Gust, Freeport; Frank, Virginia;
Charles, Melrose; Joe, South St. Paul;
Edward, Glasgow, Mont.; William, S.D.;
Louis, Wilfred and
Bertha who reside at the old home;
Mrs. A. V. Stimler, Foley;
Mrs. Blaus Abfalter, St. George; Mrs. Lizzie [Dore] and
Mrs. Pauline of St. Paul.
"The funeral will be held from the
Catholic Church in Duelm on Saturday morning at 9 O'Clock and internment will be made
in the Duelm Cemetery."
