American Family Immigration Center Although so far it can be difficult to access due to the large volume of users, this site yields many gems for those who have family members entering the country through New York's Ellis Island immigration station between 1892 and 1924. Here you can research passenger records from ships that brought the immigrants and even see the original manifests with the passengers' names.

Immigration and Naturalization Service Very useful site has historical research tools, glossary of ships passenger annotations, ports of entry and their records by state or district, and information on naturalization records.
