| Notes: | At the time of the Apr. 27, 1940 U.S. Federal census, Marie was 8 years old and living with her parents and eight |
| siblings ranging in age from 18 to 5 years in a house rented for $16/month in Buffalo, Wright, Minnesota. Her father had completed his education through his junior year of high school, and her mother had completed
three years of college. She and all her siblings were attending school with the exception of brother Junior and her youngest sibling, five-year-old brother Gilbert. Junior had never attended school. In
April 1935 the family had been living in a rented house in Benton County, Minnesota. Her father was employed as an auto mechanic in a garage; he had worked 26 weeks and was unemployed for 7 weeks in 1939, earning $750
that year.
Marie was the ninth of ten children. She was really the "little sister". She grew up in the shadow of her older siblings but always found a way to make her presence known. Nothing over-shadowed her sweetness. She always was the peacemaker. When others found it necessary to not agree, Marie was the rallying point. Her sense of fair play and forgiveness always was her mainstay. She had a love of family which was reciprocated by her children and siblings. When help was needed, she was always there. Her legacy is that of love. Marie's greatest thrill were her nine grandchildren consisting of seven boys and two girls. Since retirement she developed diabetes and subsequently kidney failure, needing dialysis three times a week. Although she seemed well on the way to recovery following heart valve replacement surgery, sadly a month after surgery Marie suffered a massive heart attack and passed away without recovering consciousness. |
