| Notes: | At the time of the Apr. 27, 1940 U.S. Federal census, Gilbert was 5 years old and living with his parents and eight |
| siblings ranging in age from 18 to 5 years in a house rented for $16/month in Buffalo, Wright, Minnesota. His father had completed his education through his junior year of high school, and his mother had completed
three years of college. He and all his siblings were attending school with the exception of Junior and his youngest sibling, five-year-old brother Gilbert. Junior had never attended school. In
April 1935 the family had been living in a rented house in Benton County, Minnesota. His father was employed as an auto mechanic in a garage; he had worked 26 weeks and was unemployed for 7 weeks in 1939, earning $750
that year.
Gib contacted polio as a young child and was hospitalized for nine months. After graduating from high school he worked at a number of jobs. When his two older children were born, he decided to enter Vocational Rehabilitation as a result of the polio. His wife, Audrey, worked to help support the family while Gib was receiving rehabilition. She worked at the Wayzata Bank and at Food Producers. He became a printer. Gib lived in Beloit, Wisc. where he worked on his first job as a printer. He later moved back to Wayzata where he stayed until his untimely death. His physical problems were enough for the entire family. Gib had open heart surgery and angioplasty. He also had two back surgeries from work related injuries. Gib was a devoted family man. The family had a camping trailer and regularly camped out with friends during the summer months in Minnesota. He was a Vikings fan to the end. Gib passed away very suddenly from a heart attack on May 31, 1985, just three days after his 51st birthday. |
