Greenwood Sr. "Raymond J. Greenwood Sr.,
79, Jamestown, died Wednesday at Jamestown Hospital. The funeral will be 9:30 a.m. Saturday in St. James Catholic
Church.
"There will be a Knights of Columbus Rosary at 7 p.m., Friday, in Eddy Funeral
Chapel. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
"Mr. Greenwood was born May 11, 1908, at Roscoe, Minn., the son of
Ernest A. and Clara (Kampa) Greenwood.
The family moved to Forman and later to Valley City. He graduated from St. John's Academy, Jamestown, in 1926 and taught in
one of the Conklin township schools north of Woodworth the following year. In 1928, he attended the U.S. Naval Academy,
Annapolis, Md. He graduated from North Dakota State Unviersity in 1933.
"He married Anabelle Brockman
July 16, 1934, at Jamestown. They lived at Jamestown while he taught school and was principal at Medina. They moved
to St. Paul, Minn., in 1937 where he worked for the U.S. Postal Service. They returned to Jamestown in 1942 and he worked here for the
U.S. Railway Mail Service. He later worked in the Jamestown Post Office until his retirement.
"He was a member of Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity at NDSU, a past Grand Knight
of Jamestown Council 1883 Knights of Columbus, a life member of Jamestown Elks Lodge 995. He was past Exaulted Ruler of the
Jamestown lodge and served as state secretary of the North Dakota Elks Association for many years. He was also a member of
Blue Key and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees.
"Survivers include his wife, one son,
Raymond Jr., Jamestown; three daughters, Mrs. Thomas Weber (Gretchen), Ames, Iowa, Mrs. Edward&nbap;A. Spaans
(Martha), East Grand Rap;ids, Mich., and Mrs. Robert Seitz (Angela), Jamestown; one brother, Harry Greenwood,
Bismarck; one sister, Inez Haefner, Redwood City, Calif.; 10 grandchildren and
one great-grandchild.
"He was preceded in death by his parents and one grandson."
