graduated from the University of Wisconsin with a degree in animal husbandry. He completed graduate work at the University of Minnesota and became manager of the creamery at Duelm, MN. There he met and subsequently married Clara Kampa on Sept. 27, 1904. Clara was the daughter of Joseph and Theresa Kampa of Duelm, MN. Various jobs in his profession brought the Greenwoods to Roscoe, MN for several years and in 1908 to Marion, ND. In 1912, Ernest was appointed Assistant Dairy Commissioner and was stationed at Valley City for five years. After that he was Sargent County Agent and lived at Forman. During the early and mid nineteen- twenties the family lived in Jamestown where his children, Harry, Raymond and Inez attended St. John's High School and Raymond met his future wife, Anabelle Brockman.

"Ernest was a dairy specialist and family moved within Minnesota and North Dakota where a butter maker, cheese maker, ice cream maker or dairy manager was required. Ernest was appointed North Dakota State Dairy Commissioner in 1928, a promotion that brought the Greenwood family to Bismarck. Listed are approximate dates the Greenwood family lived in various towns in MN and ND:
Duelm, MN.............................1903-1905...............Creamery Manager
Roscoe, MN.............................1905-1908...............Butter maker
Marion, ND..............................1908-1912

Bismarck, ND..........................1928-......................ND Dairy Commission
"After his term as Dairy Commissioner, Ernest was employed at the North Dakota State Laboratories and at the Burleigh County Courthouse.

"At the time of their 50th Wedding anniversary, in 1954, Ernest and Clara's son, Harry, and his wife, Margaret, lived in Bismarck, ND, and had three children: Mary Claire, James and Jane. Their second son, Raymond and his wife Anabelle, lived in Jamestown, ND and had four children: Gretchen, Martha, Raymond, Jr. and Angela. Their daughter, Inez, and her husband, Raymond Joos, lived in Fargo, ND and had three children: Kenneth, Richard and Gayle. At that time, they had ten grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Ernest and Clara celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in 1964.

"Clara died January 26, 1965 in Bismarck, ND. Ernest died Sept. 21, 1969 in Jamestown, ND, at the Central North Dakota Nursing Home, of Coronary Thrombosis. He lived the last years of his life with his son, Raymond and Anabelle Greenwood. Ernest was buried in St. Mary's Cemetery in Bismarck, ND.

"Some of the information for these notes was taken from an article from the Bismarck Tribune, September, 1954, on the occasion of my grandparents' 50th wedding anniversary."
