All are indicated as having Freufsen as the country of birth. The family first set foot in the United States at the immigration station in Castle Garden, New York.

At the time of the July 12, 1895 Minnesota state census Martin was 77 years old, still working as a farmer and living with his wife Frances in St. George Township, Benton Co. MN. Martin said he had been living there for 24 years, and that both his parents were of foreign birth.

Martin, a carpenter by trade, was reportedly a jolly fellow. Both Martin and his wife Frances died of strokes on their farm.

Death Record: Martin Kampa St. George Township; Benton County: Dec 1897 age 79 arrival in the US from Prussia 1870 parents not known; cause of death: Perilce [paralysis?]

Martin Kampa's estate was probated in August and September of 1906.

The old homestead was south of Duelm on 80 acres west of N-S highway. Martin and Frances' children inherited the farm in 1906. The children sold the farm in 1908 to Michael Kampa (a first cousin). Michael's children inherited the farm in 1940 upon his death. Joe and Rose Pollard purchased the farm in 1940. There was 160 acres east of the highway originally homesteaded by William Hoeseche who sold it to A. J. Hoseseche, who sold it to Nels and Sadie Nelson. Joe and Rose Pollard purchased that land in 1944. Information provided to Len Pollard by Mary Boersch Halfman and Dorothy and Ed Swalbaski in Sept. 20, 1990 conversation
