After their marriage Joseph and Rose farmed on what is known as the Chris Schmidt farm approximately 5 miles northwest of Duelm.

At the time of the April 26, 1910 federal census, "Rosie" was 7 years old and living with her parents and four siblings on the family farm in St. George Twp., Benton Co., MN. She was attending school at the time. She stated she was born in Minnesota of a father from German- speaking Germany and a mother from Polish-speaking Germany. Her older brothers Clemens and William were working for their father as farm laborers on the home farm.

At the time of the April 2, 1930 census, Rose was 27 years old and living with her father-in-law John, husband Joseph and their five children on the family farm in St. George Township; they did not own a radio. Rose stated that she and Joseph were married when they were both 20 years old. Her brother-in-law Ambrose lived on his own farm next door.

In approximately 1932, they moved to the farm known as the Ken Winkelman farm, approximately 3 miles northwest of Duelm.

In mid-1947 Joseph, Rose and William moved to 6th Place SW in White Center Heights, Seattle, Washington. In mid-1948 they moved to the South Park area of Seattle.

Rose passed away in a Seattle hospital while a resident of South Park. Joseph continued to reside in the South Park area with at least four different residences until his death in January 1955.
