| Notes: | Frederick "Fritz" Wm. Zertler served in the 1866 Austro-Prussian War, also known as the Six Weeks War. His duties were that of a "Guard-Artillerist" |
| He immigrated to the United States in 1867 or 1868
and became naturalized in 1876 in St. Paul, MN. He was born in
Brandenburg, Germany in the year 1844. He had two wives:
Mina [Winter] born in Germany and Dora [Eckel] [Balder] born in
Milwaukee, WI. Fritz (also known as Fred) died in St. Cloud in 1920.
Other members of his family coming to the US included Kathryn Zertler
(died in 1900s in Connecticut), Louisa and Elsie Zertler, both born in
Brandenburg. From Patty Campbell
(Connie Balder Mickolajak talks about Fritz Zertler:) "Dora, the brewer's wife, married Zertler after Frank's death. It is shown on the records that Zertler worked for the brewery while Frank was alive. Then after several years he became the manager and shortly thereafter married Dora and moved into Frank's house at 523 Seventh Avenue South. I guess, like Frank, he died there also. Their only child together was Arthur Adolph. Arthur's son, Arthur William, lives in Phillips, Wisconsin. No mention of the Balder children is in the obituary. Dora is not buried with Zertler in North Star Cemetery, about three blocks from Calvary Cemetery - but, is next to Frank in an unmarked grave." |
