In both the 1885 and 1900 censuses, Michael was living in Palmer Township
with his parents and siblings. Later in life he lived in Duelm, MN.
On September 12, 1918, Mike was 35 years old and working as a farmer on RFD #1 in Foley, Benton, Minnesota. He was of medium height and build with light brown hair and blue eyes. At the time of the April 8, 1930 federal census, Michael stated his age was 46 years old; he was living with his wife and ten children on their own farm in St. George Township which was valued at $4,000 ($40,000 in 2001 currency). The family did not own a radio. Michael stated both his parents were born in Germany. Brother Thomas Kampa and his family lived on the farm next door. Michael passed away at 4:45 p.m. on Monday, October 2, 1939 from a coronary embolism at his home in St. George Township, Benton County, MN. He was 58 years old. |
