he KAMPA family came from
the town of Opele of what at the time was Prussia, but previously and now is
in Poland. Mary Theresa's
father, Joseph Kampa, came to America in the 1870s for the
same reasons as our other ancestors, with need for land and freedom from an
oppressive government. Joseph's father, Martin,
and mother, Frances, also immigrated with him. Joseph married
Theresa Balder in
1870. Her brother Frank
started the first brewery in St. Cloud.
