 The Hamers moved to Excelsior, MN right before Helen's senior year in high school. After marrying, Helen and Virg moved to Texas for four years and then to St. Cloud, Minnesota.
 
Helen was an avid quilter, seamstress, and crafter. She also enjoyed hunting, golfing, bowling, and traveling. She also had enough love for 32 foster babies.
