At the time of the Apr. 5, 1940 U.S. Federal census, Ralph J. was 13 years old and living with his parents and two siblings on the family farm valued at $800 in St. George Township, Benton, Minnesota. They had been living in the same house on Apr. 1, 1935. Both his father and his mother had completed the 5th grade, as had his 17-year-old brother Joseph L.; the three of them were no longer attending school. Louis was a farmer and Joseph L. was a farm laborer on the family farm. Ralph and his sister Louella M. (age 15) were attending school; he was in the 3rd grade and she was in the 7th. In 1986 when he was 59 years old, Ralph's address was RR 2, POB 74 in Foley, Benton, Minnesota. During a visit to see Ralph and Sally Kampa at the old Kampa family farm in late July 2007, Sally said that Ralph was a spoiled youngest child and that she, Sally, has always taken care of him. Ralph died at home in Foley, Benton, Minnesota on Sunday, October 30, 2011, surrounded by his family. He was 84 years old. |
