Death of
John Kaufmann

"John Kaufmann of St. Cloud, a former resident of Clear Lake, died at his home in that city, on Friday, Nov. 3 of heart failure, aged 67 yrs. 3 months. We copy the following from the St. Cloud Times:
"'He was born in Philadelphia, and moved to Minnesota at the age of four years with his parents. The family located for a brief period at St. Paul, and later moved to Carver county where they resided on a farm for some years. In 1874 he came to St. Augusta and was employed in the construction of a church, he being a stone mason by trade. He was married to his first wife, Mary Imholte, the same year. Three years later he settled in the town of Clear Lake on a farm. While living in Sherburne county he was county commissioner for several years. In 1898 he moved to St. Cloud and conducted the Pacific hotel. His first wife died in 1900. In 1903 he was elected to the city council from the second ward and while a member of that body was its president for one term. In April 1905 he was married to Miss Magdalena Winson of Excelsior.
"He was a member of the G. A. R., Sons of Herman and Red Men. The deceased is survived by his wife and nine children -- Mrs. E. A. Studer, Excelsior; John A. Kaufmann, Fairview, Mont.; Mrs. N. B. Thielgen, Minot, N. D.; Mrs. Anna A. Hollern and Mrs. M. A. Rengel, Misses Alma and Henrietta Kaufmann, St. Cloud, Mrs. S. A. Matern, Wesley, Ind.; Mrs. H. H. Mertes, Rockville. Three brothers and four sisters survive and 27 grandchildren.
"The deceased was a popular citizen, a man who was of a genial and friendly disposition, and respected highly by all who knew him.'
"The funeral was held Tuesday at 9 a. m. at the Cathedral in St. Cloud and the burial at the Catholic cemetery in Clear Lake."
