"A life long resident of Benton county, one of its
honest, upright and well beloved citizens, John Abfalter,
passed away Thursday evening at 7:45, after an illness of three months. During all of those
weeks of pain, he was a patient and uncomplaining sufferer.
"He was 69 years of age, being born in
St. George on January 8th, 1863. In November 5th, 1896 he was united in marriage
at Holy Angels Cathedral, St. Cloud, to Miss Lucy Balder,
who with two daughters, Mrs. Alvern K. Rickers of Foley, and Miss Kathryn at
home, and three sons, Walter of Clear Lake, Leo R. of St. George and Gilbert at home,
and four grandchildren are left to mourn his passing. One daughter, Elsie L., passed away
on January 9, 1909 at the age of three years.
"On Monday morning July 18th, at 10 o'clock
in St. Lawrence Church, Duelm, Rev. F. J. First
conducted the funeral services and the church was filled with sorrowing friends who came to pay
their last respects to the departed. Pall bearers were Frank
and John P. Balder, Lewis Abfalter,
Frank Winkelman, Joseph Brambrink and John Corrigan. Burial
was made in the family plot in the Duelm cemetery. The sympathy of the entire community is
extended to the bereaved family in their sorrow."
