Obituary of Mary Lou Winzenburg


Mary Lou Winzenburg, 76

A Memorial Mass for a former Jackson resident, Mary Lou Winzenburg of Fountain Hills, Ariz., was held Wednesday morning, Aug. 8, at the Church of the Good Shepherd in Jackson, with Father Charles J. Quinn officiating. Mary Lou Winzenburg died July 31, 2001, at her residence in Fountain Hills. A service was also held at the Church of the Ascension in Fountain Hills. Inurnment was in Good Shepherd Cemetery in Jackson.

Paul Jones and Allen Krebs served as ushers. Rose Krebs was the lector. Music was provided by organist Cari Stammer, soloist Cissa  Tusa, and a small church choir. Sathe-Osterberg Funeral Home of Jackson handled the arrangements.

Mary Lou Huppler, daughter of Wallace  J. and Anna E. (Roche) Huppler, was born Sept. 26, 1924, in Little Falls. She graduated from Watertown (S.D.) High School and the College of St. Theresa, Winona, in 1946.

On Dec. 22, 1947, she was united in marriage to Leo G. Winzenburg in Minneiska. After their marriage, they made their home in Jackson. Mary Lou taught high school in Jackson, both full-time and as a substitute. She served on the Jackson County Welfare Board and the School Board. They moved to Fountain Hills in 1987.

She was a member of the Church of the Good Shepherd in Jackson and currently the Church of Ascension in Fountain Hills. She was also a member of the American Association of University Women (AAUW), Fountain Hills Historical Society, C. Jung Society, and many church ministries including religious education and ministry to the grieving.

Survivors include three sons, Mark and wife Pamela Winzenburg of Naperville, Ill., Robert and wife Bev Winzenburg of North Mankato, and Eric and wife Paris Winzenburg of Baltimore, Md.; one daughter, Mary Winzenburg of Burlington, Vt.; and 10 grandchildren.

Other survivors include one brother, Dr. Edward G. and wife Sylvia Huppler of Little Canada, Minn.; three sisters, Margaret McMillen of La Mirada, Calif., Sister Faith Huppler of Albuquerque, N.M., and Kay and husband Dale Mikkelson of Fountain Hills, Ariz.; and three sisters-in-laws, Dorothy Blatti of Mankato, Rowene Winzenburg of Fairmont, and Lucille Winzenburg of Orlando, Fla.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and three brothers.
