Notes: At the time of the Apr. 5, 1940 U.S. federal census, Mary Lou was 15 years old and living with her parents and four
  younger siblings ranging in age from 4 to 13 years old in a home rented for $10/month at 520 2nd St. SE in Watertown, Codington, South Dakota. They had been living in the same place as of Apr. 1, 1935. Her mother told the enumerator that she had completed three years of high school, her husband had completed his first year of high school, as had their daughter Mary Lou. Mary Lou's brother Edward G. had finished 8th grade, sister Margaret had finished school through the 6th grade, and sister Eileen had graduated from the 3rd grade. Youngest sister Kay was only 4 years old and not yet in school. Her father W. J. was working 52 weeks a year in maintenance on the highway, making $1,100 in 1939, and did not have income from any other sources.

On Dec. 22, 1947, Mary Lou was united in marriage to Leo G. Winzenburg in Minneiska. After their marriage, they made their home in Jackson. Mary Lou taught high school in Jackson, both full-time and as a substitute. She served on the Jackson County Welfare Board and the School Board.

In 1985 when she was 61 years old, Mary Lou and Leo were living at 4950 N. Miller Rd., Apt. 112 in in Scottsdale, Maricopa, Arizona. They moved to Fountain Hills in 1987 and later lived at 42  Ave. 1/2e CO 6 1/2 St. Leo and Mary Lou also lived at 825 Park St. in Jackson, Jackson, Minnesota.

Her husband Leo died Oct. 11, 1990 at the age of 80 in Fountain Hills. Eleven and a half years later Mary Lou followed him in death on July 31, 2001, aged 76 years old.
