Notes: At the time of the Apr. 5, 1940 U.S. census, Edward G. was 13 years old and living with his parents and four siblings
  ranging in age from 4 to 15 years old in a home rented for $10/month at 520 2nd St. SE in Watertown, Codington, South Dakota. They had been living in the same place as of Apr. 1, 1935. His mother told the enumerator that she had completed three years of high school, her husband had completed his first year of high school, as had their daughter Mary Lou. Son Edward G. had finished 8th grade, daughter Margaret had finished school through the 6th grade, and daughter Eileen had graduated from the 3rd grade. Youngest daughter Kay was only 4 years old and not yet in school. Edward's father was working 52 weeks a year in maintenance on the highway, making $1,100 in 1939, and did not have income from any other sources.

Edward also showed up in the Apr. 5, 1940 U.S. census living with his Aunt Rose and Uncle George LaFond in a rented home at 235 Summit Ave. in St. Paul, Ramsey, Minnesota. His aunt and uncle had been living in the same place as of Apr. 1, 1935, and Edward had been living in Watertown, South Dakota. Rose told the enumerator that she was a college graduate, her husband had completed his first year of high school, and nephew Edward had finished the 8th grade. Her husband George was working 42 hours a week, 52 weeks a year as a brewer in a brewery, making $1,872 in 1939 and did not have income from any other sources.

Edward was 17 years old and living in Codington County, South Dakota on Sept. 16, 1944 when he enlisted as an officer in the Medical Administrative Corps (MAC) of the U.S. Army Reserves at Ft. Snelling in Minnesota. He had one year of college education at the time.

In the 1952 Minneapolis, Minnesota City Directory, Edward G. was listed as being a student living at 3643 Park Ave., Apt. 1 with his wife Sylvia.

In the 1954 Rochester, Minnesota City Directory, Edward G. and his wife Sylvia M. are listed as living at 808 11th Ave. SE. At the time he was a fellow at the Mayo Foundation. In the 1957 Rochester, Minnesota City Directory they are living at the same address while Edward was working as a physician at the Mayo Clinic.

Edward is listed in both the 16th (1978-1979) and 17th editions (1980-1991) of the Who's Who in the Midwest.
