| Notes: | At the time of the 1885 Minnesota State Census, Elizabeth was living with her parents and siblings in Clear Lake |
| Township, Sherburne County, Minnesota.
Elizabeth was living with her parents, siblings and ten boarders in Clear Lake Township, Sherburne County, Minnesota at the time of the 1900 U.S. Federal Census. At the time of the January 16, 1920 U.S. Federal Census, Elizabeth was 34 years old and living with her husband Charles and their four children in their mortgaged home in Red Wing, Goodhue Country, Minnesota. Charles was working as a house carpenter [Source: 1920 U.S. Census, Roll T625-831, p. 18B, E.D. 54]. In 1927 Elizabeth was living in Red Wing, Goodhue County, Minnesota. At the time of the April 19, 1930 U.S. Federal Census, Elizabeth was 46 years old and living with her husband Charles G. and their three children in their own home valued at $4,000 in Red Wing, Goodhue County, Minnesota. The family owned a radio. Charles was working as a house carpenter. Elizabeth stated that she and her mother were born in Minnesota and her father was born in New York. She stated she was married when she was 21 and Charles was 28 years old [Source: 1930 U.S. Census, Red Wing, Goodhue County, Minnesota, Roll: 1087; p. 16A; E.D. 23]. In 1945 Charles and Elizabeth were living in Red Wing, Goodhue County, Minnesota. Gene Kampa reminisces on his Aunt Lizzie and Uncle Charley: "Lizzie was Elizabeth Haaf and they lived in Red Wing, MN. My sister Frances took all of us kids to a park in Red Wing driving a Model T Ford. There was a steep hill into the park and Frances wasn't very competent as a driver. I recall Louise getting scared and bailing out. The Mississippi River was about 100 yards from the bottom of the hill and I don't recall that Louise was much of a swimmer. Louise thought that was double jeapordy, I think! Anyway, that was the only time I met Lizzie and Charley . . . . Louise probably has different memories of this episode but she is wrong!" -- from a July 10, 2004 e-mail to Rae Bordua |
