| Notes: | Agnes was baptized by Rev. Francis Welp on Sept. 5, 1897. Her godparents were Johannes Salzbrunn and |
| Maria Kampa.
At the time of the June 9, 1900 U.S. federal census, her family told the census enumerator that Agnes was 1 year old (but she was actually 2). She was living with her parents and five siblings ranging in age from 11 months to 10 years old in Buckman Township, Morrison, Minnesota. Her parents had been married 12 years. Her father was working as a farmer and her elder brother, Robert was working as an unpaid farm laborer. Her brother could read, write and speak English, and attended school for 6 months out of the year. All Agnes' other siblings could not read or write, nor were they going to school yet. At the time of the June 14, 1905 Minnesota state census, Agnes was 7 years old and living with her parents and siblings on R.F.D. 2 in Buckman, Morrison, Minnesota. Her father had been living in the same enumeration district for 25 years and her mother for 17 years. Her father was working as a farmer. At the time of the May 2, 1910 U.S. federal census, Agnes was 12 years old (although the census enumerator was told that she was 13) and living with her parents and five siblings ranging in age from 11 to 19 years old in Buckman Township, Morrison, Minnesota. Her parents had been married 21 years, and her mother was the mother of six children, all of whom were still living. Both elder brother Robert and his father were working as farm laborers. Her father told the enumerator that he had emmigrated to the United States in 1867. At the time of the Apr. 5, 1930 U.S. federal census, Florentine was single and 32 years old (but told the enumerator she was 29). She was sharting an apartment rented for $40/month located at 168 W. Summit Ave. in Dist. 41 of St. Paul, Ramsey, Minnesota with a 28-year-old single lodger, Suzanne D. Loftus. Their household had a radio. Florentine was working as a records clerk for the State of Minnesota, and Suzanne was working as a stenographer at the court house. At the time of the Apr. 2, 1940 U.S. census, Florentine was 42 years old (although she told the census enumerator that she was 38) and living with her 41-year-old husband Dewey Johnson (who she said was 39) and their 13-month-old infant daughter Nancy at 3616 23rd Ave. S. in Minneapolis, Hennepin, Minnesota. They had been living in the same place as of Apr. 1, 1935. Florentine told the enumerator that she had completed her education through her third year of college and that her husband was a college graduate. Her husband Dewey was working 35 hours a week, 52 weeks a year as a radio promoter, and did not have income from any other sources. After the death of her husband Florentine never remarried. She doted on her sister Anna's children, especially Anna's daughter Margaret who lived with her for a time after her polio treatment. Florentine lived in Minneapolis and died there on July 20, 1982 at the age of 84. However, her headstone says "Florentine A. Johnson, 1900-1982." She was buried in the town she grew up in as a child with her parents and siblings. |
