"One of the pioneers of Foley passed away November 25 when
Mrs. Ellen Hall died at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and
Mrs. E. W. Swenson in St. Paul. She had reached the age of 87 years before she passed on to
her reward.
"She was one of the original Foley family, that became leaders of this
community. She came here 45 years ago from Almonte, Ontario, Canada. Her husband, William Hall,
was a native of that community.
"She was a sister of the Foley brothers, some of whom settled in St. Cloud,
Fargo, Foley and St. Paul. One of her brothers, John Foley, built the town that was given his
name. The only remaining member of the original family is Mrs. Catherine Sheehan of St. Cloud, who is now
more than ninty years of age.
"Mrs. Hall left surviving her, five children, Mrs. W. H. Lord,
Mrs. J. E. Doheny, and John F. Hall, all of Foley; Mrs. E. W. Swenson of
St. Paul and W. E. Hall of St. Cloud. Two other children, George and
Anna predeceased her. She also left many grandchildren and a few great grandchildren.
"Funeral services were held Saturday at 8 a. m. in St. Luke's
church in St. Paul, where one of her grandsons, Father L. Lord, officiated at the service. Interment was in
St. John's Catholic church cemetery in Foley.
"The pall bearers were all her grandsons and were, John F. Lord,
D. D. Doheny, Wm. Hall Jr., Wm. J. G. Hall, Clyde Hall, and
John S. Hall."
