| Notes: | Thomas's father, Drury, died when Tom was 17 years old. |
Tom was of the Roman Catholic faith. He lived in Gallatin and Pattonsville, MO. Tom had enlisted in the U.S. Army and had attained the rank of Sergeant when he was killed outright by hostile gunshot or small arms fire in the Battle of Chu Moor, located in Military Region 2 - Kontum, South Vietnam. He was a ground casualty and his body was recovered from the battlefield. Tom was single and 24 years old. His elder brother, Colonel Lawrence Bonderer, participated in a B-52 raid in support of ground operations on the same day (May 1, 1968) that Tom was killed in Vietnam. Four and one-half months later, Tom's mother Bess received a Bronze Star for Tom's heroism. |
