| Livingston, Missouri. His father was working as a farmer, and his mother and father had been married for 8 years. They were the parents of five children, all of whom were still living. Grandma McMillen had been
married 40 years and was the mother of seven children, four of whom were still living in 1900.
At the time of the April 28, 1910 U.S. federal census, Drury was 13 years old and living with his parents and six siblings on the family farm ownend free and clear in Green Township, Livingston, Missouri. His father was working as a farmer. His parents had been married for 18 years and were the parents of eight children, seven of whom were still living. Drury could read, write, and had attended school within the last year. On June 5, 1918 at the time of his WWI draft registration, Drury was 21 years old and working for his father. He had grey eyes and light brown hair. At the time of the January 13, 1920 U.S. federal census, Drury J. was 23 years old and living with his parents and five younger siblings in District 106 of Green Township, Livingston, Missouri. He, his father and his 19-year-old brother Lawrence were working as laborers on the farm. Drury married Anna "Bess" Geneva Stimmler at 9AM on May 6, 1929 at St. Marcus Church in Clear Lake, Sherburne, Minnesota. The Rev. Father Gaspodar officiated. The Maid of Honor was Bess's sister Frona Stimmler, and the Best Man was the groom's brother, Herbert Bonderer. Eight-year-old flower girl Ellen Stimmler was dressed in nile green organza and carrying a basket of tulips as she preceded the bridal party to the altar. At the time of the Apr. 2, 1930 federal census, Bessie was 23 years old and living with her husband Drury Bonderer, their infant daughter Elizabeth (1 month old), and Bessie's younger sisters, Jewel and Ellen, on the family farm in Fairview, Livingston, Missouri. Drury was working as a farm manager in general farming. At the time of the Apr. 23, 1940 U.S. federal census, Drury was 43 years old and living with his 33-year-old wife, Bess, and their five children between the ages of 10 and 1 years old on the farm they rented for $400/month in Utica City, Green, Missouri. Drury was working as a farmer on the farm for 60 hours a week, 52 weeks a year. Drury, Bess and the three eldest children all had been living at a rural location in Livingston, Missouri as of Apr. 1, 1935. Drury was a veteran of World War I, a former Grand Knight of the local Knights of Columbus, was a member of the Holy Name society of St. Columban's Church, had served on the Utica school board for five years, was a member of the Livingston County Agriculture Stabilization committee, and was county commodity loan supervisor for two years. He died suddenly at 5:30 PM Thursday, Aug. 31, 1961 following a heart attack suffered while he was engaged cutting alfalfa near Blue Mound, Livingston, Missouri. Drury was 64 years old. |
