"Joseph Balder was born in Peterwitz, Prussia on the 17th of November 1841. In 1870, his parents
came to America, and the year following, to this town, where Mr. Balder took the farm on which
he now lives. He married Miss Johanna Baron on the 27th of January, 1875. They have had

Township (1881), p. 365] In the 1880 census, Johanna was 25 years old and living with her husband Joseph on their farm in St. George, Benton Co., Minnesota with their two daughters, Mary, aged 5, and Martha, 1 year old. [Source: NA Film No. T9-0615, p. 169A] Joseph and Johanna Balder's first homestead was in Duelm. They moved to Foley after the death of their small child John who drowned in the small Stony Brook that flowed through their farm yard. |
