Rueben was born February 29, 1924 in Benton County to Joseph and Rena (Balder) Brambrink.

At the time of the April 23, 1930 federal census, Rueben was 6 years old and living with his parents and six siblings on the family farm in District 4 of Glendorado Twp., Benton, Minnesota. He was attending school at the time. His father was working as a dairy farmer [Source: 1930 Federal Census, NA Film No. T626-1078, p. 8B].

Rueben married Eleanor David on October 29, 1947 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, Duelm. He farmed and lived in Benton County his entire life. He was a member of Church of the Annunciation, where he was a Trustee for twelve years and belonged to St. Joseph Mission Group.
