their own home valued at $4,000 ($40,000 in 2001 dollars) at 2714 22nd Ave. in Minneapolis District 222,
Hennepin, Minnesota. The family owned a radio. His father was working as a
paper and painting decorator.
At the time of the Apr. 12, 1940 U.S. Federal census, Rudolph was 15 years old and living with his parents and three brothers in the family home valued at $4,000 at 3714 22nd Avenue in Minneapolis, Hennepin, Minnesota. The family had been living in the same place in April 1935. Both Rudolph's parents had completed their education through the 8th grade. The three oldest boys were attending high school: Leon was in his senior year, Roger in his junior year and Rudolph in his freshman year of high school. Baby brother Paul was only five years old at the time and not yet attending school. Father J. Paul was a painter and decorator working in the home decoration industry. He worked 48 hours a week for 49 weeks in 1939. In 1950 Rudy was a 26-year-old student living at home at 4921 Woodlawn Blvd. in Minneapolis, Hennepin, Minnesota. In 1953 Rudy and Helen were living at 1419 W. 27th Ave., Apt. 1, in Minneapolis, Hennepin, Minnesota. His wife was working as a clerk at the Fifth NW National Bank. Rudy and Helen were divorced when he was 47 and she was 42 years old. He married second Eileen Margareta Johnson on July 2, 1983 in Hennepin County when he was 58 and she was 59 years old. They lived together at 6907 Knox Avenue South in Minneapolis, Hennepin, Minnesota until her death in December 2001 at the age of 77. Rudy died in Minneapolis on Sept. 13, 2009 at the age of 84. He was buried at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis in Plot: 26, 516. Rae Stimler Bordua reminisces on her Uncle Rudy: "Whenever the other relatives came to visit they would socialize with our parents but Uncle Rudy always found time to spend with the kids, entertaining us with sleight-of-hand and magic tricks. No matter how much we begged he would never reveal how he accomplished those tricks. We were beguiled and believed he could do almost anything. "When our family lived in Canada the only relatives who visited us there were Uncle Rudy and Aunt Helen. At the time of their sojourn they had just adopted cousin Tracy and were quite enthralled with her, 'spoiling her,' according to my folks. "The next year on their return visit they had just adopted cousin Chris. This time around Chris was the focus of all the parental attention Tracy had had to herself the year before. It was quite a sea change from the previous trip and I felt sorry for her." |
