At the time of the June 10, 1885 Minnesota state census, Mary was 7 years old and living with her parents and six siblings in Palmer, Sherburne, Minnesota. Her parents were born in Prussia as was her elder sister Anna, however Mary and the rest of her siblings were born in Minnesota. The nearest post office was in Clear Lake.
 
At the time of the June 27, 1895 Minnesota state census, Mary was 17 years old and living with her parents and nine siblings on the family farm in Palmer, Sherburne, Minnesota.
 
In 1899 Mary and Paul Peter Popilek were married in Minnesota. She was 21 and her husband was 28 years old.
 
At the time of the June 20, 1900 U.S. federal census, Mary was 22 years old and living with her husband Paul and John Popilek, a 59-year-old single day laborer, in St. George Township, Benton, Minnesota.
 
At the time of the June 5, 1905 Minnesota state census, Mary was 27 years old and living with her husband Paul, their two daughters, and her brother-in-law Thomas Popilek, an engineer, in Royalton, Morrison, Minnesota. Her husband was a mill owner.
 
At the time of the 1910 U.S. federal census, Mary was 32 years old and living with her husband Paul, their two daughters, and her younger siblings John and Clara in Bowlus, Morrison, Minnesota. Her husband was working as a bartender in a saloon. Brother John was a sawyer in a saw mill and sister Clara was working as a servant for the family.
 
At the time of the Jan. 23, 1920 U.S. federal census, Mary was 41 years old and living with her husband Paul and 14-year-old daughter Emma in St. Cloud City, ward 3. Paul was a proprietor of a saw mill at the time.
 
At the time of the Apr. 19, 1930 U.S. federal census, Mary was 52 years old and living with her husband Paul in St Cloud, Stearns, Minnesota. Her husband worked at a car shop and a saw mill.
