At the time of the 1880 federal census, Paul was 8 years old and living with his parents and three siblings on the family farm in St. George, Benton County, MN. His parents stated that they, he and his brother Thomas all were born in Prussia, while younger siblings Joseph and Matilda were born in Minnesota. [Source: NA Film No. T9-0615, p. 170C.]
 
Paul was 23 years old, working as a farmer and living with his parents and five younger siblings in St. George Township, Benton, Minnesota during the July 2, 1895 Minnesota state census. He said he was born in Poland and that he had been living in St. George for 21 years.
 
At the time of the 1920 census, Paul was 47 years old and living with his wife Mary and 14-year- old daughter Emma in St. Cloud City, ward 3.
