Jeanne is a folk art historian and writer with a background in journalism, art and genealogy. A graduate of Marquette University’s College of Journalism, with majors in journalism and English, she pursued graduate studies in fine art and literature in universities in northern California, New York, and London, England. She was graduated from the Folk Art Institute in New York and was named a Fellow of the American Folk Art Museum there. She has written about American and French-Canadian folk art for books and national magazine articles. A speaker on folk art and genealogy at museums and organizations, she has lectured at the Dublin Seminar for New England Folk Life (Boston University) in Historic Deerfield, Massachusetts, and the New England Regional Genealogical Conference.
 
Jeanne was a Town of Hingham reporter for a Massachusetts daily newspaper, a magazine writer in Rye, Westchester County, New York, and contributed cultural features to the New York Times. She was a writer and assistant editor of WINE Magazine in London, England, and public relations officer for educational institutions in Westchester County, New York. Her family history pursuits included writing for three genealogy publications, and editing two award-winning genealogical journals. Ms. Carley is a native of Minnesota with French-Canadian and Silesian ancestry, and has lived in several states and in the UK (A Deerfield Descendant, her only English ancestors were from Deerfield, Massachusetts, who were killed and captured in the 1704 French-Indian Raid). She is married to William M. Carley, a former investigative senior writer for the Wall Street Journal, and have three adult children and a bichon friseé, Cherié. They are residents of Chatham, Massachusetts and Sarasota, Florida.
 
On Nov. 9, 2013 Jeanne had a major stroke and was airlifted to Boston where she had surgery on her brain at Brigham & Women's Hospital and remained in ICU for 3 weeks, then transferred to Spaulding Rehab Hospital in Sandwich on the Cape, then a local nursing facility where she continued physical therapy, OT, etc. for another 5 weeks. After she came home the end of January 2014 she had therapists and nurses who came to her home to work with her. She currently has been having out-patient therapy at Liberty Commons, the nursing facility nearby in Chatham.
