Notes: Valentin immigrated with his family to the United States when he was 10 years old, and they settled in Graham
  Township, Benton, Minnesota on a farm. He married Maria which she was 17 and had to get permission from her mother to marry as she was underage. They never had children but adopted three instead.
 
At the time of the June 4, 1900 U.S. federal census, Valentin was 28 years old and living with his wife Mary, both his parents and Albert Luzlok, a 19-year-old servant from Germany, on a farm in Graham Township, Benton, Minnesota. Valentin was a laborer on his father's farm.
 
At the time of the Apr. 18, 1910 U.S. federal census, Valentin was 39 years old living with his wife Mary, his 88-year-old father, Bernard Kampa, their 13-year-old adopted son born in New York, and Tracy Kampa, their 9-year-old adopted daughter also born in New York, at 25 6th Avenue NE in St. Cloud Ward 6, Benton, Minnesota. Valentin was working as a stone mason. He stated that he and Mary had been married 17 years.
 
At the time of the Jan. 31, 1920 U.S. federal census, Valentin was 48 years old and living with his wife Mary and their 19-year-old adopted daughter Theresa C. L. in St. Anne's Village, Stearns, Minnesota. He was working as a farmer in general farming.
 
At the time of the Apr. 12, 1930 U.S. federal census, Valentin was 58 years old and living with his wife Mary, their 13-year-old adopted daughter Clementine, born in Minnesota, and George E. Lent, a 69-year-old boarder from Ohio, on a farm on Albany Road in Avon, Stearns, Minnesota. Valentin was working as a farmer.
 
His wife Mary died in 1932 at age 56.
 
At the time of the Apr. 6, 1940 U.S. census, Valentin was widowed, 71 years old and living in a home rented for $8/month on Block 10 Wardeville in Holdingford, Stearns, Minnesota by his 27-year-old son-in-law Joe Benkowski, adopted daughter Clementine Benkowski and their children, Mary (age 3 years) and Stanley (age 8 months). They had been living in the same place back in April 1935. Valentin was a retired farmer.
 
According to family stories, Valentin supposedly was a little slow mentally, and wore an eye patch later in life.
 
Valentin died on Feb. 12, 1951 at the home of his niece, Mrs. Edward Kosloske, in St. George Township, Benton, Minnesota, where he had been living the last three years of his life. He was 79 years old.
